The 2011 Tara.Ed Teacher Tour ran from July 1 –July 24, 2011. Four teacher education students (Pre-Service Teachers) from Macquarie University were selected to participate in the tour.
Each Pre-Service teacher was assigned a standard which consisted of two classes and therefore two Indian teachers. They worked in the classes, alongside the teachers for the duration of the tour, teaching various subjects. The Pre-Service Teachers each brought and used their own educational resources and modeled student-centered and inquiry learning strategies. Resources were left at the schoolfor future use.
This was the first tour conducted to the village of Kesnand. The focus of the July 2011 Teacher Tour was to provide resources for and model the useof interactive, student-centred maths games which complemented the school’s mathematics curriculum and provided real learning situations for students and teachers. Classroom behaviour management was alsoidentified asa priority with positive reinforcement being modelled as an effective tool to manage student learning.
The Tour impacted 420 children and 17 teachers. The group also participated in outreach activities to four Government Schools in two villages, reaching over 2000 students, as well as engaging in cultural and community activitieswithin the village.
